Muslim Women's Fashion in a Western Magazine? I am SOOOOOOO Happy!!!!

Above: Swaroski coverage, and below, an old Marie Claire accessories spread [highly controversial at the time]:
Thank you Marie Claire for featuring Muslim women, at least not in a negative light, though you got attacked for not doing so:)

I remember the old article on abayas featuring Mona bin Kalli, it was one of the first of its kind! def raised the profile of Emirati women and Dubai's Ladies Club!

Or...I know I'm going out a limb here... maybe they could just for once show a normal everyday muslimah with taqwa? Not a terrorist nor a sex kitten.

Now I would get excited about that!!!!

Mrs. Hanbag Addict: I always love her abayas, so lovely.

Umm Aminah: You know the Marie Claire shot of the girls skiing and at McDonalds? That TOTALLY reminds me of Aalia and Pixie and Boxie and Me in UAE, lol. But I know what you mean. I am talking about from fashion erspective, high fashion (I wear the same things, but less tight and all hair covered lol): I love artsy-fashiony things, but in the articles, featuring women with interesting lives, Muslimah lawyers or doctors would make good rolemodel fixtures.

salam, yes! I second your admiration! In fact when I learned of this a few months ago I bought the Marie Claire with this spread in it! I feel like I own a piece of fashion history :) I may be the only one who thinks so, but I don't mind, I've been known to be pretty independent :p

I suppose the best thing it does is offer awareness about muslim women although Im concerned the way they are potrayed like the other commenter. I mean I know men maybe don't read this magazine but i am worried if they did it would seem muslim women are kind of up for it too. I don't want them to jeapordise the protection I have from wearing my abayah and hijab. I don't if Im making sense?
